Cambridge leaf pickup starts November 2: use the map before raking
Cambridge schedules its 2026 loose-leaf program from November 2 to about November 27. Enter your address in the City’s collection map and rake only just before your area is due. Keep leaves away from drains, sidewalks and bike lanes. Bagged regional collection and on-property mulching are separate options.

The old date is the easy mistake
If your trees shed leaves after the truck has passed, the cleanup still needs a plan. Use Cambridge’s 2026 collection window for the first pile and keep an allowed option ready for what falls later.
A 2025 local discussion shared that year’s loose-leaf dates while a resident noted trees had not yet dropped their leaves. That problem returns every autumn: trees do not follow the collection map. The answer is to plan a fallback rather than use last year’s dates.
The current page gives November 2 to approximately November 27 for 2026. Its general FAQ also uses broader typical-season wording. Use the specific 2026 announcement and address map for planning, then check updates if snow changes the work.
The 2026 local debate explains why the same cleanup method does not fit every property. One resident with several mature trees described filling bags even after mulching and still needing roadside collection. Another complained that leaves blew away or snow arrived first. Other replies preferred mulching or more targeted collection. These are household experiences, not a vote that changes this year’s service. Use the current map while choosing the backup that fits your yard.

Rake at the right time and keep the pile clean
The City recommends the weekend before your area’s expected collection. Raking into the road allowance too early can lead to bylaw action. Put only leaves in the roadside pile, with no sticks or other debris that can damage equipment.
Keep grates, sidewalks and bike lanes clear. Do not park over the pile or put carts behind vehicles. Crews can go around an obstruction without returning, which leaves you needing another disposal plan. Children should not play in roadside piles.
Start by dividing the work into what must move and what can remain. A sidewalk, drain or bike lane needs to stay clear. Suitable leaves elsewhere may be mulched or composted on the property, as the City suggests. A heavy blanket is a different job from a light scattering, and someone unable to manage the lifting may need help. Arrange that help around the mapped collection window rather than a guess about when every tree will be bare.
Choose a fallback for late leaves
If your trees drop leaves after your pass, use the Region’s eligible household yard-waste schedule and approved containers. The City also supports mulching and composting suitable leaves on your own property. Choose a method that keeps walking routes clear.
Cold conditions can delay or end roadside collection early. The benefit of the loose-leaf program is less bagging when your timing fits. Its limit is a moving seasonal schedule, not an on-demand return visit after every tree is bare.
When using the roadside service, make one clean leaf pile in the allowed place and time. Keep twigs and garden debris out, and avoid creating a hidden obstacle for road users. The fact that the truck is expected soon is not a reason to block the drain or park on the pile. If a vehicle obstructs collection, the City says crews can pass it without returning. Ask household members and visitors to leave the working area clear.
The October 2025 discussion had the same frustration: a collection date can arrive before the last leaves fall. For late leaves, keep suitable yard-waste containers ready and use the Region’s eligible schedule. Residents asking for two passes were describing a desired change, not an extra visit you can book. Plan the first pass around the official notice, then handle what falls afterward through an allowed alternative instead of leaving a roadside pile indefinitely.
