Alternating dates and method exceptions

Which addresses water on Wednesday to Friday?

Addresses ending in 4 or 5 use Wednesday; 6 or 7 use Thursday; 8 or 9 use Friday. These are lawn-watering days. The page does not assign regular lawn watering to Saturday or Sunday.

When can I water gardens or wash a vehicle?

Gardens, vehicle washing and pool top-ups follow alternating dates during the same 5:30am-to-10am and 7pm-to-11pm windows. Odd-ending addresses use odd-numbered dates; even-ending addresses use even-numbered dates.

Does that mean an even address can water its lawn every other day?

No. The alternating-date schedule is for other outdoor water use. Regular lawn watering remains once a week on the assigned weekday. Keep the two schedules separate when setting an irrigation timer.

Temporary permits and efficient systems

Can I use a watering can at other times?

The City says handheld watering cans or buckets, including rain barrels, can be used anytime. That is a specific method exception. It should not be interpreted as permission to leave a sprinkler or hose-based system running outside its schedule.

What if I install sod, seed or nematodes?

Additional watering days require a temporary permit through the Region of Waterloo. Apply through the linked regional outdoor-water-use permit service. A newly planted lawn does not automatically receive an exemption without that permit.

How should I set up a sprinkler efficiently?

Check for leaks and damaged heads, aim away from sidewalks and roads, and turn the system off during or after rain. The City suggests smart controllers or soil-moisture sensors that skip watering when the ground is already wet.

Where can I check the current rules?

The Cambridge water page links the Region's water conservation and outdoor-water-use pages, including temporary permits. Follow current regional notices for changes. A City directory entry is a reference to the rules, not a live drought or restriction alert.
