Regular bill schedule and tax calculation
When is the interim tax bill issued?
Cambridge issues interim bills in late January. Installments are due on the first working days of March and May. The bill is usually about half of the previous year's total taxes, rather than a final calculation of the new year's levy.

When is the final bill issued?
Final bills arrive in late May with installments due on the first working days of July and September. They reflect the current City, Region and education requirements. Use the actual notice to confirm the dated installments for the year.

Who sets the different parts of the bill?
Cambridge bills City taxes and collects for the Region of Waterloo and school boards. City and regional budget processes set their rates, while Ontario sets education rates. A single City bill therefore contains more than the municipal share.

Supplementary bills and address changes
How is the tax amount calculated?
The combined tax rate is multiplied by MPAC's current value assessment. The 2026 residential total rate on the page is 0.0151218. Property class affects the rate, so do not apply the residential rate to a commercial or farm-class account.

Why might I receive a supplementary bill?
A new building, addition, pool or property-class change can trigger supplementary assessment and taxes. MPAC first assesses the change, then sends it to the City. There is no exact timetable for that process.

Can supplementary taxes cover an earlier year?
Yes. The City says changes can be backdated to when they occurred, up to three years. The bill is additional to regular taxes, may arrive at any time and can have as little as three weeks' notice for its single payment.

Account evidence, certificates and relief
How do I correct the mailing address?
Owners can submit the online tax mailing-address change using details from the bill. The account is updated on the next business day. This form is for redirecting an existing owner's mail, not for reporting a property purchase or sale.

Does the public assessment lookup show tax arrears?
No. The lookup provides general assessment and tax information, including a five-year history and installments. It is not a statement of the property's current tax status and omits ownership and legal descriptions.

What is a tax certificate for?
A tax certificate guarantees the tax balance at a specific date and is used by lawyers for sale adjustments. Purchase online with Visa or Mastercard or at City Hall. Online requests are processed the next business day and updates are available for 30 days after issue.

Where can eligible owners ask about tax relief?
The page lists annual deferral applications for certain seniors receiving Old Age Security and supplement, and people receiving Ontario disability support. Applications are accepted after final bills issue. Contact the Tax Office at 50 Dickson Street about eligibility rather than assuming an automatic reduction.
