Time limits and overnight restrictions
How long may I park on an unsigned street?
The current General Rules section says five consecutive hours, but the same page's exemption and winter sections still say three hours. Posted shorter or different limits apply. Confirm an uncertain location with the City rather than choosing the more generous number.

When is overnight parking banned citywide?
From January 1 to March 15, parking is prohibited on all City streets from 2:30am to 6am. A declared snow event can prohibit street parking at any hour and is not limited to those winter dates.

Which areas have a year-round overnight ban?
Downtown Galt, the Hespeler and Preston core areas, and regional roads prohibit parking from 2:30am to 6am year-round. A seasonal street rule outside a core should not be applied to a regional road or downtown location.

Safe locations and snow events
How far must I stay from hydrants and driveways?
The page lists at least three metres from a fire hydrant and one metre from a driveway. It also prohibits parking within 15 metres of bus stops or railway crossings. Check signs and clearances rather than assuming an empty curb is legal.

What are the intersection clearances?
Do not park within nine metres of an intersection or within 15 metres of a signalized intersection or roundabout. Park facing the correct direction and no more than 15 centimetres from the curb. Do not block bike lanes, sidewalks or trails.

Can I park on the lower driveway boulevard?
During the residential parking review, the City allows it only if the vehicle does not overhang the sidewalk, road or curb, sit on grass, face the wrong way or block sightlines. Corner driveways can be unsafe and are not an automatic exception.

Exemptions, conduct and enforcement
What happens during a declared snow event?
All on-street parking is prohibited, day and night. Exemptions cancel automatically. The fine is $80 and vehicles can be towed as needed for clearing; owners also pay towing charges. Check the City's posted declaration and end time.

How do I get a short-term exemption?
Apply through the online parking portal for up to 15 days per licence plate per calendar year. Exemptions do not apply on regional roads or in core areas with two-hour-or-shorter limits. They do not override a snow event.

Can I repair a car or wait in a stopping zone?
Repairing, washing or maintaining vehicles on City streets is prohibited. No Stopping means no stopping for any reason. A No Parking zone permits only brief active loading or passenger pickup, not leaving the car to walk someone to a door.

How do I report a violation or dispute a ticket?
Call 519-623-1340 for urgent concerns, using the after-hours dispatch prompts, or report non-urgent concerns online. Parking screening requests and payment generally have 15-day deadlines. Follow the actual penalty notice and any screening decision.
